At the right-hand side of the control panel is a sample
menu. Choose a sample and press the see button to load it.
Do close the window after viewing it to prevent your desktop getting cluttered.
Remember that Test Maker is designed to work only with
Netscape 4 or Internet Explorer 4 although tests that you create will work with any
JavaScript browser.
Before spending a great deal of your precious time creating a complete test, please carry
out a simple trial to check that everything works as it should. Just create a test with
one question and then save it and re-load it.
1. Type a few characters into question 1 and
then press the button.
2. A new window will open. Save it to disc.
3. Close the new window.
4. Load the saved test. If you see gobbledygook, try the alternative method.
5. Press the finished button at the bottom.
6. If a score appears, press the close button. All is well.
At any time during the creation process you can press
the button to see how your test
is developing. Even if the test is not completed you can check if it is working by
entering answers and pressing the finished button at the bottom.
1. Decide which type of test you want. You can change the type using the
control panel at bottom right.
2. Enter a title in the Title box e.g. "Car Maintenance for
3-year olds"
3. Enter some text in the Information box if required.
4. If you are doing a type 1 or type 3 test and want to have less than 4 answers (or
options), change the value to 2 or 3 as required.
5. Type in question 1.
6. Type in the answer if you are creating a type 2 or 4 test.
Type in 1 correct and 1-3 incorrect answers for a type 1 or type 3 test (making sure that
the correct answer isn't always at the top!). Select the appropriate radio button to show which answer is the correct one.
7. If you are doing a type 3 or 4 test you can enter additional text after each set of
options. You can also choose to start a new paragraph.
8. Check the test by pressing the
button, and then fill in the rest of the form.
9. Write something in the bottom Information box if required.
At any time during the creation process you can save
your test and then load it to assure yourself that it really works.
The saving method depends upon which browser
you are using.
Internet Explorer 4
1. Open the new window's File
menu.
2. Choose Save As...
3. Select a folder to save your test in.
4. Type in a name for the test.
5. Open the folder where your test has been saved and double-click on the test to load it.
6. (Breathe a sigh of relief if it works.)
You can also use the Netscape save method if you prefer.
Netscape
1. Press the
button.
2. Load a text editor (e.g. WordPad).
3. Select the html code in the new window (Ctrl - A and then Ctrl
- C).
4. Paste the code into the text editor (Ctrl - V).
5. Save the code from the text editor as a text file with a .htm extension e.g. mytest.htm
6. Open the folder where your test has been saved and double-click on the test to load it.

Colours
There are 15 different colour schemes. When they are changed, a sample is displayed in the
centre of the control panel.
Right/Wrong
This setting should be set according to how your system displays check
boxes.
If this checkbox shows a tick, select
right. If it shows a cross, select wrong
(so that wrong answers will be identified instead of right answers).
When you have finished creating a test, do make sure that it works
before clearing the test-making page. It is very easy to forget to select the correct
answer in a type 1 or type 3 test.
